Elisenheim breaks ground on new padel courts
Elisenheim Estate has commenced construction of a new sporting facility that will introduce two international-standard padel courts at the estate’s main lifestyle hub near its retail and gym facilities.
The development, being built in partnership with Urban Village, Holms Construction and estate residents, is scheduled for completion in May.
It forms part of the estate’s broader vision to create an active, socially connected community where residents and visitors can engage through sport and shared experiences.
APxHouse Property Development Holdings chief executive officer Le Hugo van Rooyen said the introduction of padel reflects both the changing nature of modern residential developments and the growing demand for social sport.
“Padel has a unique ability to bring people together. It is accessible, slower-paced and inherently social, which makes it perfectly suited to a residential environment like Elisenheim,” he said.
“As the sport continues gaining momentum in Namibia, we see this facility becoming a place where residents and visitors connect on and off the court while strengthening the sense of community the estate is known for.”
Fastest-growing racquet sport
Padel, widely regarded as the fastest-growing racquet sport in the world, has expanded dramatically in recent years, with more than 30 million players across nearly 150 countries and an estimated 70 000 courts expected globally by the end of this year.
Namibia has mirrored this trend, with the sport gaining strong momentum in Windhoek and other urban centres as new facilities open and local participation continues to grow.
The project will feature two professional-grade outdoor courts constructed to international standards using glass enclosure systems and specialised artificial turf to support both recreational and competitive play.
High-performance light-emitting diode (LED) floodlighting will enable evening matches, significantly extending playing hours and keeping the facility active beyond daylight.
In line with modern padel venues worldwide, the courts will operate through a digital booking platform, enabling players to reserve courts, organise matches and manage playing schedules through a mobile application.
The new courts will integrate with the estate’s existing amenities, including parking areas, pedestrian access points and surrounding social spaces, forming a natural extension of the estate’s recreational infrastructure.
The positioning of the courts has also been planned to accommodate future expansion, allowing additional courts to be introduced should demand for the sport continue to increase.
