Swakopmund hosts Rössing Marathon tomorrow
Rössing Uranium, in partnership with the Swakop Striders Running Club, is set to host a record 4 500 runners and fun walkers in Swakopmund for the annual Rössing National Marathon tomorrow.
Athletes, fitness enthusiasts, families and supporters from across the country and beyond are expected to gather for the premier sporting event, which continues to grow in stature year after year.
Rössing Uranium spokesperson Daylight Ekandjo expressed excitement ahead of the event, saying the marathon promises a vibrant atmosphere filled with endurance, community spirit and coastal energy.
“We are truly looking forward to hosting runners and visitors in Swakopmund for this year’s Rössing National Marathon. The race is also a celebration of resilience, wellness and community spirit.
“We are proud to once again create a platform where athletes can challenge themselves while families and supporters come together in a positive and energetic environment,” she said.
Ekandjo added that, in addition to the competitive 10km, 21.1km and 42.2km races, the event will also feature a 5km fun walk.
The fun walk offers families, social walkers and community members of all fitness levels the opportunity to take part in the event.
Participants can still register for the fun walk at the venue today between 16:00 and 20:00, and tomorrow between 06:30 and 08:00 before the start.
Race route
The race will start and finish at the parking area below Café Anton, next to the Swakopmund Tennis Club and the Swakopmund Museum.
The route follows Strand Street, then joins Fischreiher Street and Dr Schwietering Street, leading onto the main road towards Henties Bay before turning back towards the start point.
Ekandjo also cautioned Swakopmund residents that there will be increased activity in and around the tennis court parking area in Strand Street, including early morning noise, road usage and crowd gatherings.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate the community’s understanding and support as we host this national sporting event,” said Ekandjo.
