Karibib Private School (KPS) is led by principal Vincent Hockey, who has worked in the education fraternity for the past 28 years. The school had been a private school for German-speaking learners since after World War Two and had been built and funded by the German government at that time.As more public schools for German-speaking learners were established all over the former South West Africa, learner numbers dwindled. All funding was stopped and the buildings were handed over to the Schulverein Privatschule Karibib. For years, the school was closed. When the Navachab Gold Mine started its operations in Karibib in 1989, a school for the employees’ children was urgently needed. The Schulverein entered into an agreement with the mine for the use of the buildings free of charge, and the mine undertook to be responsible for all maintenance and the running costs of the school.Excellent recordAs a private school, articles of association had to be drawn up, which were then approved and accepted by all partners involved, including the education ministry. The school reopened its doors on 29 April 1993, 29 years ago.Karibib Private School, with 268 learners and 21 teachers, offers an accessible, quality education for the benefit of all its learners. The school caters for learners from five years old up to the AS levels (Grade 12).
