Astronaut Matthias Maurer has shared the challenges of life in space with learners at UNAM Oshakati Campus, Oshana region.

Maurer said learning to do a spacewalk is one of the biggest challenges, as the white spacesuit is pressurised and filled with atmosphere, making it difficult to move and grab objects. He explained that everything floats in space, making simple tasks hard.

"It requires full concentration, as one might drift off into space," he warned.

On eating in space, Maurer said astronauts don't eat normal food, only food that sticks together, as loose particles could float into their eyes and cause harm.

He also revealed that during his 60 days in space, he learned about 7 languages.

Maurer shared his experience with learners from different schools gathered at the UNAM Oshakati Campus as part of World Space Week 2026.
