With the Central Volleyball Association (CVA) League round two’s second week completed at Ramatex Hall in Otjomouise last weekend, a dominant force in the men’s section once again stood out.

Defending champions and log leaders NamPower have made themselves a household name in the local league, having dominated their matches and remained unbeaten so far.

Despite the league’s second-placed Namibia Defence Force (NDF) Hurricanes having a good first outing after the break the weekend before last, securing two victories to equal points with NamPower, who still had two games in hand, they remained second after tiebreaks.

In NamPower’s recent encounters, which marked their return from the league break, they faced Training Establishment and Afrocat E, sweeping both in straight sets (3-0).

Reflecting on the winning streak, captain David Katoma could not hide his confidence in their good run.

“We have been training daily over the break to keep our fitness and up our game, so this came as no surprise at all. Winning is a norm now – it’s normal to us. I am happy, but this has become our routine now in our pursuit to defend our title. There is no doubt about it now,” he said.

Men’s results

Other encounters in the men’s section saw Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust) Falcons suffer a 3-1 loss to Afrocat D, who also recorded a 3-0 win over Training Establishment. Afrocat’s men’s side, Afrocat E, lost 3-0 to City of Windhoek.

NDF Hurricanes proved a force to be reckoned with, winning 3-0 against Nust Blazers to keep their chase hot on the heels of the league leaders, NamPower, in second place.

The Blazers versus Kudos clash saw Blazers take one set, but Kudos proved too strong, winning 3-1 and then beating University of Namibia (Unam) Kings D 3-0.

The Unam derby between Kings and Kings D saw Kings dominate 3-0 before recording the same result against Kudos.

Women’s section

In the women’s section, Afrocat Ladies stood out as the team to watch, as they last weekend usurped Deutscher Turn und Sportverein (DTS) as league leaders and have done everything right to keep their lead after winning all their fixtures.

Afrocat Ladies first faced Nust, beating them 3-0 before repeating the same score against Revivals. They now lead the league on 28 points.

Afrocat captain Anna Kadhila expressed pride in her team’s straight-set victories but noted there is room for improvement.

“We will have to work on our defence as it is struggling a bit, but I am enjoying our momentum so far,” she said.

DTS, meanwhile, secured a 3-0 win over Afrocat Titans, maintaining their second place on 24 points. Their match against City of Windhoek was postponed. Titans later faced City Warriors, losing 3-1.
