Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup football champions Omusati had much of their success due to the skill and determination of Kavaripura Tjambeni, who was deservedly named goalkeeper of the tournament.

Tjambeni kept clean sheets in all of the team’s five matches, including the final against Kavango East which ended goalless in regular and extra time.

The 19-year-old then played another starring role in the penalty shoot-out which Omusati clinched 3-1 against Kavango East, who have now lost three of the last five finals.

Another Omusati prospect, Teofelus Hamukwaya, was named player of the tournament.

On the attacking side, 18-year-old Omar Arend of Oshikoto Region walked away with the tournament’s golden boot award. The Ongwediva United FC player scored four goals in four matches, namely two against Zambezi and one each against Hardap and Omaheke.

Iindombo Matias (Oshana) was honoured as the Newspaper Cup’s top football referee.
