Namibia’s girls have it all to do today as they strive for a best second-place group finish which could take them to the semi-final of the Cosafa U17 girls football tournament.

The Namibians meet Comoros at the Hage Geingob Stadium at 15:00 today.

The hosts’ hopes of winning the group and getting an automatic qualification were dashed after Malawi qualified from Group A by gaining six points from two matches.

The result left Namibia with little hope as they will have to rely on results elsewhere, as well as their match against Comoros.

National team coach Errol Damaseb remains positive that the girls will be able to deliver against Comoros.

“There is hope for us, but we have to win and hope the other teams do not get the points that we need to qualify.

“As a team we have decided to play an attacking style and formation in order to get the goals, because I feel they will count as far as qualifying to the next round is concerned.

“The spirit in the camp is high and we have put our defeat against Malawi behind us as we have to focus on Tuesday’s crucial match now,” Damaseb said.

Namibia is in second place with zero points and a minus 3 goal difference after one match, while Mauritius is at the bottom of group A with no points and a minus 6 goal difference.

The competition has three groups, with only the group winners guaranteed of a place in the semi-finals.

The rest of the teams competing in the groups will have to settle for a best second-place finish if they are to qualify to the last four remaining teams.

There will only be one spot left in the semi-finals when all the group winners have been confirmed.
