Khevare Action Capital Investment (KACI) cc is preparing to close its corporate sports calendar with the fifth annual Corporate Sports Carnival at Academia Secondary School in Windhoek on 14 November.

The multi-sport event has attracted 15 team entries so far, with organisers targeting another 15 before registration closes next Wednesday, 4 November.

Speaking to Sport Wrap, an event partner, organiser Albert Khevare said preparations were nearing completion, with the focus now on attracting more teams ahead of the official draw at Thuringerhof Hotel in the capital.

“The draw will start at 15:00, with registration closing before that time. Each participating team is required to send one representative to the draw,” Khevare said.

The carnival will see teams and individuals compete for honours across football, volleyball, netball, tug of war, darts, pool, relay racing and a 10km run.

Owela joins carnival

This year’s edition will also introduce Owela, a traditional board game, as a bonus competition before its planned inclusion as a regular sporting code next year.

Khevare said teams that have registered for the carnival can enter the Owela competition at no additional cost and compete for a trophy.

The organisers are also engaging potential sponsors to provide additional prizes and giveaways, which are expected to be announced during the event.

Final preparations

Khevare confirmed that the venue, municipal permits, security arrangements, medical services and match officials have all been secured, along with the medals and trophies.

“Logistically, we’re ready. We are also finalising arrangements for a City Police escort for the 10km road race. We will also be introducing race numbers for participants in the run and relay events for easy identification,” he said.

He added that the organisers are looking to build on previous editions as corporate sports participation continues to grow.

Khevare recalled that KACI began organising corporate sporting activities in 2014 with 14 teams, before expanding its competitions over the years to accommodate more companies and sporting codes.

Previous champions

The carnival has seen several organisations establish themselves across its different competitions since the inaugural edition in 2022.

The Office of the President has dominated the football competition in recent years, winning three consecutive titles from 2023 to 2025.

At last year’s edition, August 26 completed a double by winning the volleyball and tug-of-war titles, while the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) claimed both the netball and relay crowns. Agribank emerged victorious in darts.

The 10km run has also produced consistent performers, with Maulisiu Dominikus winning the men’s race in 2024 and 2025, while Ivonne Shelikita improved from silver in 2024 to gold last year.
