The Kamikaze Inline Hockey Club is marking its 30th anniversary this weekend during the club’s annual tournament, which runs from today until Sunday in Windhoek.

Three decades ago, a small group of boys in Windhoek began skating wherever they could, often facing challenges from authorities on the streets. Their determination eventually led them to indoor arenas, including Sport Klub Windhoek, where they could train freely.

“At some point, ice hockey sticks came along. That’s how we started inline hockey in Namibia and founded the Kamikaze Inline Hockey Club,” said founding member Mario Katzur, who remains active in the club today.

The anniversary programme includes the annual Inline Hockey Tournament, featuring teams across all age groups, and the anniversary Frühschoppen on Saturday, with live music by American Rick, cake and a toast to celebrate 30 years of Kamikaze.

A highlight will be the All-Star Game vs Legends on Saturday at 18:30 at the Kamikaze Inline Hockey Arena, where the former Namibian national team “Legends” (30 ) will face the U18 All-Stars in a showcase of skill, speed, nostalgia and celebration.

A silent auction will also be held, with the sole Kamikaze 30th anniversary hoodie, the only one ever made, going to the highest bidder.

Since its founding in 1995, the Kamikaze Inline Hockey Club has grown into one of Namibia’s most established and active inline hockey organisations.

With over 100 members across all age groups, the club emphasises youth development, international collaboration and fostering a strong local sports community.

Kamikaze players have represented Namibia in international competitions, helping advance the sport on both national and global levels.

The 30th anniversary comes as Namibian inline hockey is also making waves internationally, with the national senior men’s team recently winning bronze at the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China.
