Saturday was filled with nail-biting action at the University of Namibia's gym hall in the sunny capital city as some of the best teams under the Central Volleyball Association (CVA) went to head to head to battle it out in the league finals.

The Khomas Nampol Volleyball Club (KNVC) men’s team managed to bag a first place win in a tight five set game against the Namibian Defence Force’s (NDF) A team.

“I am really happy to win the title, but I have to thank my boys. They have shown respect and discipline for the sport since day one. We are looking forward to playing the Namibian Volleyball Federation cup and hope to make it to the finals there too,” the KNVC head coach said fervently.

The team won by three points to two, securing first place, a golden trophy and a N$5 000 cash prize. In second place, with a cash prize of N$3 000, was NDF A followed by Kudos Sports Club.

The league started on the 12 March with a total of 11 clubs registering to compete and secure a spot in the top three. A total of 19 teams – seven female and 11 male – competed in the league.

Long-time rivals

“The Namibia Volleyball Federation cup will have the winning teams from the regional associations that won their respective leagues compete in Mariental later this year,” CVA chairperson Dororthy Nambahu said.

In the women’s division, Kudos Sports Club managed to win first place against their long-time rivals, Revivals Volleyball Club, in a 3-2 set.

The NDF volleyball club took home bronze medals in the women’s division.

“It was a great Saturday as we played against our arch nemesis, the Revivals Volleyball Club. I am a proud coach, knowing that this is the second time we win the CVA league.

"My girls really pushed themselves, especially through the five-set thriller. It was not easy, but they pulled it off,” a proud Weshitile Nekoto, the coach of the Kudos Sports Club female team, said.
