The Governor of Omusati Region , Immanuel Shikongo officially sent off the Omusati volleyball team as they prepare to represent Namibia at the upcoming Special Olympics Games in Poland, scheduled for 4–9 October 2025.

The team earned their place at the international competition after emerging victorious at the regional event held in August, where they defeated Khomas Team A. Their remarkable achievement secured them the honour of carrying Namibia’s flag onto the global stage.

During the send-off, Shikongo encouraged the athletes to play with unity, confidence, and a strong sense of purpose. He reminded them not to be fearful, but to believe in themselves, as they have already proven to be winners.

“You are already champions, and I have no doubt that you will make Namibia proud and return victorious,” he said.

The team, comprising students from Haudano Senior Secondary School, as well as Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila Resource and Vocational School, will depart on Friday to Windhoek, before travelling to Poland.

Given Kaholongo, team captain, expressed her optimism during the send-off, saying, “I’m a setter, and we are travelling to Poland for the Special Olympics World Cup, and I feel very positive that we are going to come back with something to bring back to our country. My message to my fellow teammates is that we need to put in hard work, dedication, and commitment to make our country proud.”

Kristofina Bathlomeus, head coach, highlighted the team’s journey to international representation, stating, “We managed to attend the trials in Windhoek, where different regions participated, held on 22 August, and we emerged as champions. We are now going to represent the nation at the world competition in Poland, from 3 to 9 October. It wasn’t easy, but we managed, and as we go, we will give our best. This is the first time the Special Olympics is being represented internationally in volleyball unified competitions, and looking at my players, they are ready and capable of anything. I thank you.”

The Omusati volleyball team’s send-off marks an important milestone for Namibian sport, as they carry the nation’s hopes and determination onto the world stage.
