Rising stars shine at Arysteq, Simonis schools tourney

The second tournament in the Arysteq Asset Management and Simonis Storm Schools Tournament series took place last weekend at the Wanderers Sports Hall in Windhoek. Held in collaboration with the Namibia Table Tennis Association (NTTA), the series is now in its third consecutive year and continues to grow.In a tournament report issued on Sunday, NTTA stated that the recent edition attracted a total of 48 players, with 30 junior boys and 18 junior girls competing across the under-11, under-13, under-15, under-17 and under-19 singles categories.
Despite some schools being unable to participate, the turnout showcased the dedication and enthusiasm of young table tennis players.
Key Highlights of the Tournament:
Under-19 junior boys: Caden Bosman (DHPS) dominated once again, defeating Kamrouz Ghayouri (St Paul’s College) 2-0 to claim his second consecutive victory in the series.
Under-19 junior girls: Lian Gebauer (DHPS) delivered a flawless performance, defeating Cadence Farmer in straight sets to secure her second win of the season. Gebauer’s determination to defend her 2023 and 2024 titles is evident.
Under-17, under-15 junior boys: Kamrouz Ghayouri and Agape Chicalu (both from St
Paul’s College) went head-to-head in two gripping finals. Ghayouri emerged victorious in both categories, showcasing his exceptional talent at just 14 years old.
Under-17 junior girls: Cadence Farmer turned the tables on Lian Gebauer, defeating
her in straight sets to claim the title.
Under-15 junior girls: Farmer also triumphed in this category, defeating Suverasaneje
Ikorua (Concordia College) in straight sets. Ikorua impressed everyone by eliminating
current national team players en route to the final, underlining her potential for the national team.
Notably, all finalists and semifinalists in the under-17 and under-19 categories played up in higher age groups, underscoring their exceptional development and skill levels.
Under-13 junior boys: Fillemon Ikanda (Olof Palme Primary School) secured the title by
defeating his schoolmate, Nataneal Delai, in straight sets. Delai’s steady improvement and passion for the game make him a player to watch in future tournaments.
Under-13 junior girls: Ester Nelenge (Olof Palme Primary School) dominated the
category, defeating Sylvi Ikanda (Hillside Primary School) to claim her second consecutive tournament victory.
Under-11 junior boys: Terence Kadandara (St Paul’s College) claimed the championship, with Tangi Haufiku (Olof Palme Primary School) finishing as the runner-up.
Under-11 junior girls: Ester Nelenge secured another win, with Sylvi Ikanda as the runner-up, continuing her rise in the rankings.
