The Windhoek SAGES branch proudly hosted the highly anticipated national SAGES golf tournament, sponsored by Momentum, for the sixth consecutive year.

The event drew a field of 60 skilled players, showcasing a healthy increase from the previous year's 50 participants. Representatives from Swakopmund, Walvis Bay, Okahandja, Mariental and Windhoek congregated at the prestigious event, highlighting the widespread appeal and camaraderie fostered by the SAGES community.

Held at Omeya Golf Club last Saturday and at Windhoek Golf Club on Sunday, the tournament witnessed outstanding performances from the eventual winners.

Key winners were:

Men’s champion: 1. Kevin Wentzel (Walvis Bay), 2 Johan Grobler (Windhoek).

Women’s champion: Angie Lohman (Windhoek).

Stableford champion: Bertus Damon (Windhoek).

Best betterball team: Bertus Damon and Warren Theron.

Best 4-ball team: Bertus Damon/Warren Theron and Keith Gardiner/Mike Beavis.

The Nationals tournament adhered to the format played in South Africa, featuring medal, individual stableford (overall and women), betterball, four-ball, and Madala (over 70) categories.

A total of 56 players participated over both days, with an additional four players joining on the second day. The Windhoek SAGES branch extends heartfelt appreciation to Momentum for their unwavering support of this event, which serves as a cornerstone in the branch's efforts to raise funds for various charitable organizations.

The SAGES community is dedicated to fostering fellowship among golfers while making significant contributions to charitable causes. Since 2014, SAGES has successfully hosted eight fundraising events, cumulatively distributing proceeds exceeding N$1.3 million. Beneficiaries have included The Cancer Association of Namibia, ISAP, Hope Village Centre, Old Age Homes, SPCA, Multiple Sclerosis, Okanti, and other organizations identified by participating members and players.

In a statement reflecting the event's ethos, Denille Roostee, marketing executive at Momentum Metropolitan, remarked: “Participating in the Momentum SAGES event is more than golf; it's about making a meaningful impact through every swing, supporting causes, and fostering community. We're proud to be part of this initiative and extend our gratitude to Gustav Jung, president of SAGES Namibia, for its professional execution.”
