“This one was for the fans,” Shikongo said after the fight. “I trained hard, and I knew I had to make a statement. I’m grateful to my team, and I’m ready for the next challenge.”
The win improves Shikongo’s professional record to eleven wins and one draw, as his promoter Nestor Tobias eyes bigger opportunities on the international professional stage. Shikongo previously fought to a draw against his compatriot Harry Simon Junior.
The evening also saw impressive performances from other Namibian fighters. Kareb Shitona stopped veteran Anthony Jarmann in the third round to claim the cruiserweight national title, while Merven Nguno earned a unanimous decision victory over Salom Petrus in their welterweight national title bout.
