Promoter Nestor Sunshine Tobias has confirmed that all is set for an action-packed boxing event scheduled for 9 May, held in honour of Namibia’s late founding father, Sam Nujoma.

Speaking at a press conference, Tobias expressed confidence in both the fighters and the overall event, stating that the boxers are fully prepared and that fans can expect an exciting night of boxing. He added that the promotion has assembled one of its strongest line-ups yet and called on supporters to attend in large numbers.

The fight card features some of the promotion’s top talent, including Filipus Nghitumbwa, widely known as “Energy”, Mateus Heita, nicknamed “The Beast”, and Harry Simon Jr., who continues to build his reputation in the ring.

In the main bouts of the evening, Heita will take on Zolisa Batyi in a 12-round contest for the WBO Africa featherweight title, while Nghitumbwa is set to face Leonardo Carrillo for the WBO Global super bantamweight crown over 12 rounds. Simon Jr. will square off against Freeman Mabongwe in an international welterweight clash scheduled for 10 rounds.

The undercard also features several competitive match-ups, including Tangeni Salomon against David Johannes in the lightweight division, as well as Lineekela Nghifindaka taking on Jeremiah Mhere in a junior lightweight contest. Fredrick Nghutunanye will face Tapadzwa Mushando, while Naftalie Sheyapo meets Pinehas Johannes in a heavyweight bout. In the bantamweight division, Joy Nangolo is set to go up against Rofhiwa Nemushungwa.

Tobias Promotions also extended its gratitude to sponsors MTC Namibia and PstBet, as well as the Namibia Tourism Board, for their continued support and investment in boxing.

Tickets for the event are priced at N$100 for general admission, while VIP tables accommodating 10 people, including food and drinks, are available for N$20,000.

With a stacked card featuring multiple high-profile fights and title bouts, the event is shaping up to be one of the highlights of Namibia’s boxing calendar, promising an exciting night of action while honouring the legacy of Nujoma.
