Namibian Correctional Service and Revivals once again dominated at the MTC Volleyball National League (VNL) in the men’s and women’s sections, respectively.

The VNL’s sixth-round instalment took the country’s top-tier league to Ondangwa, where fans were served an action-packed 10-match thriller on Saturday.

In the men’s section, unbeaten local side Namibian Correctional Service held their own in their two matches, storming to straight-set (3-0) victories over Keetmanshoop Correctional Facility and Afrocat C.

The results have propelled them to a comfortable 10-point cushion (33) at the top, ahead of second-placed Namibian Defence Force (NDF) Raptors (23), who did not feature in the round.

In third place are Nampol, who maximised points from their two matches. They defeated University of Namibia (Unam) Hard Hitters and Calvary Eagles 3-1 to close in on NDF Raptors with a one-point difference (22).

Unam Hard Hitters’ consolation came when they overcame Calvary Eagles 3-1.

Point-deadlock persists

Undefeated Revivals retained their dominance of the women’s section with 3-0 wins over Kudos and local side Six Stars.

The results now advance Revivals to 29 points, moving them out of a 23-point deadlock with second-placed NDF Phoenixes, where both teams had been locked since the fifth round in Rundu.

Phoenixes did not feature in the round and found themselves in another point deadlock. This came as third-placed Nampol’s 3-0 win over Ball Busters brought them level on 23 points.

Despite now having the same number of wins as Phoenixes (8), the tiebreak sees Nampol stay in third after set ratios. Phoenixes, who have a game in hand, boast a much stronger set ratio (2.50) than Nampol’s (1.73).

Other women’s fixtures saw Unam Queens win their sole match of the round with a 3-0 victory over Six Stars, while Kudos dominated Ball Busters by the same margin.

‘Thank you, FNVA’

Speaking to this publication yesterday, league coordinator Albert Khevare lauded the Far North Volleyball Association (FNVA) executives for their preparedness to host the games.

“They really came through when it came to logistics. [It was evident] they had prioritised the games activities to ensure the teams go out on the courts feeling comfortable with how the set-up at the venue was,” he said.

Khevare also extended gratitude to the teams for being on time for the traditional march that precedes the games.

“In terms of performances, the teams were well prepared. This is evident in defending league champions Namibian Correctional Service and Revivals, which are poised to defend their titles.”

He further thanked the officials, indicating that while there’s still room for improvement, they did well, and it is evident in the fewer complaints received at the games.

Khevare also cautioned teams at the bottom of the league to pull up their socks, with only two rounds remaining, to avoid relegation at the end of the season.
