Trampoline team takes on Africa’s best
Namibia currently has a team of four competing at the 19th African Trampoline Gymnastics Championships in Tshwane, South Africa.
Gymnastics South Africa has confirmed that five countries are competing at the championships.
The Namibian contingent of Isanrie Dreyer, Victoria Jansen, Jessica Schlabitz and Noa Lofty-Eaton left for the African showpiece on Sunday under the guidance of coaches Immanuel Kooper and Vesselin Kostin.
They are also accompanied by team manager and Brevet judge Nadine Jaeger, who will officiate at the event.
Jaeger was selected last month to officiate artistic gymnastics at the Summer Youth Olympic Games in Senegal this October and November.
This marks Namibia’s first gymnastics judging representation at the Games, as confirmed by the Namibia National Olympic Committee.
In a statement issued earlier this week, the Namibia Gymnastics Federation (NGF) confirmed that the team took part in podium training on Monday, allowing the gymnasts to familiarise themselves with the competition venue and apparatus.
The qualification competition took place yesterday, with finals scheduled for today for those who advanced.
“This young, promising team has shown remarkable dedication and commitment in their preparation for the championships.
“The NGF expresses its pride in the athletes and coaching staff, acknowledging the hard work that has brought them to this level of competition. We wish them the very best of luck,” said the federation.
