Khomas Second Division side DS Football Academy (DSFA) will face off against Namibia Premiership outfit University of Namibia (Unam) Football Club in a highly anticipated clash tomorrow at the Unam Stadium.

The youth-versus-premiership encounter will headline DSFA’s sports festival, which promises football lovers “a day filled with excitement, talent and community spirit.”

In a statement this week, DSFA described the match as a thrilling showcase of skill and determination, expected to draw fans from across the nation.

“The festival’s purpose goes beyond football. It is dedicated to raising crucial funds to support underprivileged but talented youngsters from DSFA as they prepare to participate in prestigious international tournaments later this year.

“Proceeds will help cover essentials such as travel, accommodation, equipment and training needs, ensuring these players are well-prepared to represent Namibia and the DSFA brand,” the statement read.

International success

DSFA’s last international undertaking in July saw the club’s U15 team win the inaugural Dinaledi International Football Cup in Oodi, Botswana, after overcoming the youth side of South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns at the showpiece.

The DS Football Academy operations director, Jason Shikomba, expressed belief in football being more than just a game, calling it a paramount tool that shapes futures, builds discipline and inspires the next generation.

“Through this festival, we are creating opportunities for underprivileged but gifted youngsters to shine both locally and internationally,” Shikomba said.

“The day will also feature matches of the U7 to U17 teams, where local teams will battle it out for top honours from as early as 08:00. We thus extend a warm invitation to the public, sponsors and football fraternity to join in on making this event a memorable success.”

'Unam is ready'

Unam FC manager Ileni Eto’o Sakariah lauded the initiative and assured that his side is ready for the encounter.

He said the squad has undergone a three-week training camp in preparation for the game, with all players from last season available except for captain Paulus Amutenya, who travelled with the Brave Warriors to face Malawi in Francistown, Botswana, today.

“The team is ready to give spectators a great match. Not much has changed. Coach Robert Cosmo Nauseb will obviously look at the new players we brought in and see how they perform.

“We are asking all football lovers and parents to come out in huge numbers and enjoy football.”

Entrance to the festival is set at N$20, with local artists King TeeDee and Shax Champion lined up for special performances.
