Namibian Basketball Federation’s (NBF) FNB Namibia National Basketball 5-on-5 League saw the Zambezi men’s team crowned overall champions, with the Khomas team claiming the women’s overall title last weekend.

Held at Swakopmund’s SFC Sports Centre and Walvis Bay’s Jan Wilken Stadium and Kuisebmund Basketball Courts, the competition brought together 18 teams from various regions across the country to “shoot for victory” in a back-to-back 53-game showdown.

Team Zambezi dominated Team Omusati 59-52 in the men’s final to clinch the overall title, while Team Khomas reigned supreme with an unbeaten record in the women’s division, ultimately clinching the title with a commanding 105-16 victory over Team Oshana.

Team Ohangwena was the second runner-up finisher in the men's division, alongside Team Kavango West in the women’s division. The tournament’s finals were hosted in Walvis Bay.

In a tournament report, competition director Anthony Williams Auchab described the event as a resounding success despite challenges with referee availability and last-minute venue changes.

“The tournament ran smoothly due to the adaptability of organisers and participants. While the men’s division showcased highly competitive matches, the women’s division revealed a significant gap in skill level. Ashley Linda and Peter Parker Mainza received MVP honours,” he said.

Twelve teams competed in the men’s division, representing the Oshana, Khomas, Kavango West, Kavango East, Zambezi, Oshikoto, Ohangwena, Otjozondjupa, Omusati, Omaheke, Erongo and ?Karas regions.

The women’s division featured teams from the Omusati, Ohangwena, Oshana, Otjozondjupa, Khomas and Erongo regions.
