Three hundred teenagers and teachers; five schools; six days full of top sport performances; touching moments within and across teams, and an amazing, welcoming atmosphere: This is what the 18th Sports Olympiad of German schools in southern Africa was all about.

The event took place from 11 to 16 March at the German School in Johannesburg (DSJ).

In addition to the hosting school's team, the sports teams from German schools in Cape Town, Hermannsburg, Pretoria and Windhoek took part in this major sports event.

Gripping moments, broken records and new friendships, in addition to the social interaction - which always stood in the foreground - there was a healthy competitive spirit.

The Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek (DHPS) team, consisting of learners from grades eight to 12, showed some impressive results:

On the first competition day on 12 March, all DHPS swimmers achieved medals and even broke a number of records.

During the athletic competitions on Day 2, the Namibian teenagers again showed their phenomenal talents and an extraordinary team spirit.

DHPS ranked first in long and high jump (competition group III) and the runners always achieved a place on the podium.

In the ball games (basketball, volleyball, soccer and handball) on the fourth and fifth competition days, the DHPS players once again showed an astonishing presence on the courts and fields.

After these amazing sporting performances, it was no surprise that DHPS emerged as the winner in swimming, athletics as well as boys' and girls' basketball.

The award for the best athletes also went to DHPS.

We are proud of Nora Schlabitz (grade eight) who was chosen as victrix ludorum, while Max Krafft (grade 11 was awarded the victor ludorum award.

Congratulations to the two of you and your entire team on your incredible success!

Once more, we would like to thank our team's sponsors, participating teachers, parents and especially our hosts, the German International School Johannesburg.

You all significantly contributed to the success of the 18th Sports Olympiad. The team efforts over the past days were extraordinary. Thank you!
