The FNB Schools Mountain Bike League consists of a series of races for league placings as well as a national finals, which will take place at the IJG Trails on 20 August.

With over 120 riders participating to win final points for their overall placing and their school, there were some exciting races.

"This year was an exciting year with a record number of participants and two new leagues coming onboard in Swakopmund and Stampriet," said Bronwen Chase, FNB Schools Mountain Bike League committee member.

She added: "We are looking to grow the league even further next year, with more venues, team relays and an Urban Cross event. Watch out for announcements on our Facebook page!"

Great racing

The under-10 boys' race was won by JP Lambert, his fourth win of the season, with fellow racer Archie van der Merwe chasing him to come in a close second. Qara Volschenk took her fourth win in a fast girls' U10 race.

The under-12 boys' race saw Micah Chase win his race in style, while the under-12 girls duo of Anne Cramer and Nicole Suren battled it out for top spot, with Nicole taking this one.

Marco Thiel took a fifth straight win in the boys' U14 race, with Nathan Chase and Sean Lowe fighting it out for second and third respectively.

In a slight change to the normal programme, the U14 girls started with the U16 girls, which saw great racing between the winners of their respective categories, Rose-Marie Thiel and Delsia Janse van Vuuren, respectively. Roger Suren took his fifth straight win in the boys' U16, while Ada Kahl won the girls' U18. The under-18 boys remains a great competition between Kevin Lowe and Daniel Hahn, with Kevin taking the win this time.
