The Namibian Chess Federation (NCF) held a one-day tournament on 1 July leading to the crowning of the Gobabis champion and boosting local chess development in Gobabis.

NCF donated several complete chess sets to allow the Omaheke regional library to become the central chess venue. "The tournament is one of the seven tournaments lined up for the month of July," said Goodwill Khoa, the NCF president.

"Many thanks to the Omaheke regional library for supporting the development of chess through the usage of their facilities on a Saturday."

"We have two more upcoming chess tournaments, and we would like to invite the public to come witness or participate in the tournaments: the Namibia National Senior (50) Chess Championships happening in Windhoek from 7 to 9 July, and the Zambezi Open Tournament on 15 July.
