Tunohole MungobaMaurits Devenish Private School in Ongwediva hosted a Walk-A-Thon for learners last week, the second since the Covid-19 pandemic struck.
Celebrated as a fun day for learners and parents, the proceeds of the Walk-A-Thon are directed towards the school and improving its infrastructure.
Riana Boshoff, principal of the school, says the aim of the family day event is to create a new school tradition.
“It is always a pleasant surprise when parents come and support their children and their school. It is not only for the school, but also for their children. It is important that parents participate in school related activities, also to grow their relationship with their children,” she said.
Parents operated multiple stalls including braais, homemade jewellery and other food stalls. A potjiekos competition was also hosted and the different class grades had to create activities for their fellow learners.
“We also had a netball match between the parents and that was a lot of fun.”
The activities during the day included a game room, a ghost house and obstacle courses. Boshoff encouraged parents to always participate in their children’s interests and to build relationships with the teachers of the school. She encouraged them to see how they can contribute to the success of their child
