NHE makes affordable housing a reality in Otjiwarongo
Through the collaborative efforts between the Otjiwarongo town council and the National Housing Enterprise (NHE), 40 plots were acquired in 2021 and development initiated. The management team, led by CEO Gisbertus Mukulu, visited the project site in Otjiwarongo on Tuesday, 12 April. The project, which is envisioned for completion towards the end of June, is progressing as per the timeline and is up to 70% completed. More than 50% of the houses constructed under this project are geared to assisting lower-income earners on the town council staff.
Speaking at the recently held project site visit, the Otjiwarongo mayor, Councillor Gotlieb Shivute, said commended the NHE for the swift action to make housing a reality for the inhabitants of Otjiwarongo. Mukulu used the opportunity to call upon all other town councillors to avail land to NHE.
“This is a boost for NHE to do more within our communities,” he said.
The houses constructed will consist of aluminum windows, a first for all NHE houses. This, together with face-brick accents, is in line with its new and improved facelift. NHE believes in giving back and has thus increased women empowerment in all projects. There are 16 women involved in the project currently, in the fields of administration (two), building artisans (three), office administration (one) and 10 general workers.
NHE management also held a consultative meeting with the Okahandja town council members recently to engage on the best possible ways to make housing a reality for its residents.
Further visits to Outapi, Tsandi and Okahao town councils are in the pipeline as part of the enterprise’s strategic stakeholder engagement plan, in line with the mandate to provide affordable and quality housing.
