NUST Celebrates a Decade of Excellence with Grand Parade and Official Opening of 2025 Academic Year

On Tuesday, 11 March 2025,The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) celebrated its 10th year anniversary with a vibrant parade through Windhoek’s Central Business District (CBD), followed by the official opening ceremony for the academic year 2025. The 10th year anniversary marked a historic milestone as it celebrated a decade of academic excellence for the institution.

Under the motto “Let’s Paint the CBD Blue,” students, staff, and alumni gathered on the main campus by the Main Gate where the celebratory parade kicked off at 08:30, proceeding through the CBD in a vibrant display of unity and school spirit. The crowd proudly showcased NUST’s legacy , drawing crowds who stepped out of their workplaces to witness the parade .

Official Opening Ceremony

Following the parade, attendees gathered at the NUST Lower Campus, in front of the Engineering Basement, where the official opening ceremony unfolded under the theme “A Decade of Eminence: Celebrating Education, Science, and Technology for Development”.

In his keynote address, Vice-Chancellor Proffessor, Erold Naomab reflected on NUST’s journey from its transformation from the Polytechnic of Namibia to becoming a globally competitive institution. He highlighted the university’s strides in research, innovation, and its role in national development.

“This first decade of NUST has been defined by innovation, resilience, and transformative growth,” Naomab stated. “We have expanded our academic offerings, enhanced our research capabilities, and built strong partnerships with industry and international institutions”.

The event featured a motivational speech from Theopolina Kapani, a 2015 NUST Alumna and Head of Technical and Construction at Green Hydrogen Namibia. Kapani shared her journey and urged students to seize the opportunities NUST provides to excel in their fields.

The Unveiling of the 10-Year Anniversary Logo

A major highlight of the event was the unveiling of NUST’s 10-year anniversary logo. Naomab encouraged students and staff to take pride in the logo, symbolizing a decade of excellence and a future of continued growth as they all play a part in this milestone .

NUST’s Vision for the Future

NUST enters its second decade with ambitious plans, including the expansion of its research driven initiatives, the establishment of a new campus in Kleine Kuppe, which will serve as a hub for innovation and learning , featuring modern classrooms , advanced laboratories , collaborative spaces and student support facilities. This expansion is just one of the major things to take place for the institution in the coming months or even years .

Celebratory atmosphere

Entertainment was in no short supply, with Latoya Stella and Mega Slaughterhouse delivering performances that had the crowd on their feet. Stakeholder exhibitions, games, and food stalls further made the event exciting and contributed further to the celebratory atmosphere.
