Thinking outside the box
The University of Science and Technology Student Representative Council hosted a conversation for university students with various panellists with the intention of helping students find greater direction in their futures.
The NUST SRC’s motto this year is servant leadership, thus they made it a priority to help guide students to the right path in terms of future employment and creating opportunities for themselves. The discussion was held in the hopes to achieve these goals and its theme was thinking outside the box, and it was intended at university students who were unsure of what to do next. It included issues such as which sectors to pursue while studying and after graduation, understanding yourself, and leveraging your skills to secure the bag and was hosted from the 16th-17th of May 2022. The discussion's major goal was to motivate pupils. The panellists included people from all walks of life from entrepreneurs such as Cj Dumeni to Namibian activists such as Dr Job Shipululo Amupanda. “Each panellist plays a very big role in our community and have such a big influence on the youth, each of them contributed something that we as the NUST SRC know benefited our students,” said Martha Magano Ambabi, Student Representative Council for External Affairs and Liaison.
Cj Dumeni, the owner of Chommie Bites, mentioned that you do not get what you want but what you ask for, so be brave enough to ask. All the speakers put great emphasis on networking but with the right people, finding your game and where your skills sets thrive.
The turnout was unexpected and they got positive feedback from the students. The students could not stop highlighting that the discussion helped them and said that they look at life differently now. It is quite clear that the 2022 NUST SRC's are truly aiming for growth and development of their students as they are constantly looking for ways to assist their fellow students. Martha stated that without the students they would have not been in these positions thus it is their duty to serve them.
