Celebrating 60 years of excellence
Etosha Secondary School, one of the most sought-after schools in the Oshikoto Region, was founded in 1955 in Tsumeb and officially declared a high school in January 1964. Since then, the school has experienced remarkable growth and development in its infrastructure.When it first opened in 1964, the school had 13 staff members and 212 learners. Today, it has grown to accommodate 34 staff members and 984 learners.
Not only has the school grown, but it has also expanded its extracurricular offerings to accommodate and nurture the diverse talents and needs of its learners, including sports such as netball, soccer, hockey, basketball, volleyball and athletics.
Etosha SS has produced accomplished athletes who have made it to the national teams. In addition to a wide range of sports, the school offers various arts and cultural activities, including chess, choir, poetry, Bible study and editorial and arts clubs.
Notably, Etosha SS is the only school in northern Namibia that has a partnership with a Pasch Company, which offers an exchange programme allowing two exceptional German-speaking learners to visit Germany.
Celebrations
On 1 June, the school celebrated its 60th anniversary, an event attended by alumni as well as current learners. The evening was a success, with Thomas Ambata, the 2018 head boy, serving as the master of ceremonies.
“With committed teachers and dedicated learners, through the years, Etosha has grown into an institution that is prepared to take on any challenge," said Andris Kaishungu, a teacher at the school.
Etosha Secondary School is an institution that is constantly evolving for the betterment of its learners.
