On 27 February 2025, pioneers gathered to honour an icon who dedicated his life to achieving democracy as it should be.The passing of Dr Sam Nujoma was a loss to the nation. His sacrifice will be remembered for generations to come. Nujoma’s contributions to Namibia's liberation and development are immeasurable. His legacy was honoured with the highest form of respect.
Nujoma was a man who valued education. During the liberation struggle, he ensured that people continued their education, including some of our very own teachers, such as Mrs. Lempie Angula (Home Economics teacher), Mrs. Naomi Konskenkangas (Technical Drawing teacher), and Mrs. Alina Nghipunya (Foods and Fabrics teacher), among many others.
"Nujoma was a man who didn’t give up despite the challenges he faced during the liberation struggle. He led us well." Lempie stated.
"I have never seen a dynamic leader like Nujoma. He always emphasised that all Namibian children must go to school," she added, wiping away tears. She stated, "All the above should serve as an imploration to all others who were there and excited.
"As we bid farewell to this great son of Africa, we do so with gratitude and deep respect. Sam Nujoma was a leader who did not just dream of a free Namibia, he fought for it, suffered for it, and lived to see it flourish. His name will remain echoed in the annals of history alongside Africa's greatest revolutionaries. Rest in power, Comrade Sam Nujoma, ” Lempie concluded.
Nujoma's revolutionary spirit will continue to guide us, reminding us that true liberation is not just about achieving political independence but also economic empowerment, equality and self sufficiency. His struggle, his sacrifice and his vision will not be forgotten. Namibia stands free today thanks to his belief in its people.
"May the soul of our late founding father rest in peace and in power," said Mrs. Amuulo, the principal of Mweshipandeka, as she brought the memorial service to an end.
