Choosing a field of study is a huge decision that impacts both your career prospects and personal satisfaction.

A student at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), Mary-Joy Nujoma, shared her perspective.

“Choosing what to study is a big deal because it shapes both my future and what I enjoy doing. Majoring in software feels like the perfect fit for me since I love being creative and solving problems. In computer science, I get to blend logic with creativity, coming up with new ideas through coding and design.”

She emphasised that selecting a field that aligns with your personal interests can make the learning experience more enjoyable and impactful.

Similarly, Lisa Hamases, another NUST student, highlighted the importance of choosing the right field.

“Knowing what you want to pursue after high school is crucial because it shapes your career path and personal growth. It influences not just your job prospects, but also your satisfaction and motivation. Picking a field that aligns with your interests and strengths can lead to a more fulfilling experience. It is not just about job security, it is about finding something that resonates with you and keeps you engaged.”

Hamases encouraged learners to explore and reflect on what genuinely excites them before making a decision.

According to guidelines by the institutions like NUST, the University of Namibia (Unam) and the International University of Management (IUM), here is a checklist to ensure a smooth application process:

Completed application form

Certified copies of Namibian Senior Secondary Certificate (NSSC) or equivalent certificates

Identification document (passport, ID card)

Proof of payment of the application fee

Letter of motivation or personal statement (if required)

Letters of recommendation (for specific programmes or postgraduate studies)
