IUM Tutorial Centre, CIIP outreach programme supports Khomas learners
Empowering future leaders
The initiative aims to equip learners with vital study skills as they prepare for their final exams.
In an effort to enhance educational outcomes in Namibia, the International University of Management's (IUM) Tutorial Centre and its Centre for Improved Institutional Performance (CIIP) have teamed up to launch an outreach programme targeting grade 11 learners across eight secondary schools in the Khomas Region. This initiative aims to equip learners with vital study skills as they prepare for their final examinations commencing on 18 October.
The head of IUM's Tutorial Centre, Imasiku Ntelamo said: “This initiative is aimed at motivating learners and equipping them with effective study skills, helping them better prepare for their academic journeys”.
Participating schools, including Jan Mohr, Ella Du Plessis, A Shipena, Cosmos and others, are benefitting from tailor-made workshops designed to address the challenges learners commonly face during this critical period. “Learners often experience stress, anxiety and nervousness, and the programme sought to fuel their motivation and confidence to tackle these challenges head-on,” Ntelamo said.
Unique learning styles
Central to the outreach is the introduction of effective study techniques based on the visual, auditory and kinaesthetic (VAK) approach. This methodology helps learners identify their unique learning styles, enabling them to adopt strategies that resonate with their individual preferences. Ntelamo said “acknowledging that learners have different learning styles, the outreach highlighted the importance of identifying individual preferences".
Additionally, CIIP is providing career guidance to help learners visualise their future paths, ensuring they receive practical advice alongside academic support.
CIIP's Laina Amadhila noted that they are there to encourage learners and inform them of the courses IUM offers.
CIIP also delved into how to approach job interviews, how to create a CV and preparing learners for the job market. This holistic approach empowers learners to make informed decisions about their educational and career trajectories.
