Here at Windhoek Gymnasium, the matric class of 2026 has begun their final year with energy, ambition and a strong sense of tradition. From international sports tours to meaningful school milestones, this year’s matric group has already set the tone for what promises to be a memorable chapter in the school’s history.

While continuing the traditions established by previous matric classes, the matrics of 2026 are also striving to leave a legacy of their own. For this reason, a brand-new tradition known as the “Matric Dreamwalk” was introduced on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

During the evening, the matrics first received a motivational talk encouraging them to reflect on their goals and aspirations for the year ahead. They were then given cards on which they wrote down their dreams and ambitions. These cards were sealed and attached to three pillars at the high school. The event serves as a reminder to students that anything is possible if they set their minds to it and work towards their goals.

However, dreams must be put into action, which is why Windhoek Gymnasium is especially excited about the upcoming sports tours. Several teams will participate in various tournaments, where they will gain valuable experience and further develop their skills, ultimately improving the quality of their play.

Among the highlights are two exciting international tours: the rugby team’s journey to Japan and the netball team’s tour to England. The Black Diamonds (u/19A netball team) will travel to London in June 2026 to participate in the World Schools Netball Cup, where they will compete against teams from 33 schools across eight countries. The Lions (u/19A rugby team) will travel to Japan, where they will face five other international rugby teams.

Speaking to the captain of the Lions, JD Jankowitz, said the team is excited to compete against sides from outside Namibia and hopes to learn from the experience while representing their school on an international stage.

Together, these experiences capture the spirit of the Windhoek Gymnasium Matrics of 2026; a group embracing opportunity, leadership, and the excitement of their final year. They aim not only to follow in the footsteps of those who came before them, but also to leave a lasting legacy of their own. Through new traditions and international opportunities, they are determined to make their final year one that will be remembered for years to come.
