My Zone turns ten!

Yesterday marked a decade since the birth of the My Zone brand - a brand that gives young people the chance to not only grow in skills but boost their careers and confidence.

The official My Zone birthday bash took place at the Windhoek County Club on Tuesday morning, with My Zone alums whose characters and careers have grown massively, having started their career journey with the youth brand, joining a brunch to celebrate the occasion.

Keynote speaker and executive director of My Zone, Octavia Tsibes said that she has watched the brand grow over the last decade since she joined in 2017. "What started as a small youth newspaper club turned into a brand that gives the youth the opportunity to not only grow themselves career-wise but gain work experience."

An alumni, Rivaldo Kavanga who also attended the brunch, shared his story and words of inspiration, saying "I look back at 2021 and what my very first CV looked like, and they still gave me a chance to showcase my skills as a young person."

My Zone was built, page by page, school by school, traversing the empty expanses of Namibia by road and air, with deadlines looming and a printing press waiting. It came to life in late-night editing sessions and bottomless cups of coffee shared with team members in the newsroom who believed in its vision and mission.

MyZone grew through eager school editorial teams in the stifling summer heat of Oshakati and in the crisp frost of Keetmanshoop in the winter next to the sports fields. It took (a few drops of) blood, (a lot of) sweat, (many) tears, and the commitment of dozens of people to create this brand that today stands tall.
