Sixteen-year-old Matheu Nahenda was one of the players who recently represented Namibia in volleyball at the prestigious Region 5 Youth Games.

His journey began in Grade 4 when he played football, but by Grade 7, volleyball had stolen his heart.

“The journey has been a real rollercoaster, but if you love something and want to thrive, you’ll never give up, because nothing comes easy,” he said.

From humble beginnings, Matheu rose through the ranks with unstoppable momentum.

In 2023, his hard work paid off when he earned a bronze medal at the Khomas Schools Sport Region, catching the attention of AfroCats Sports Club. Starting at the junior level, he stunned coaches by graduating to the senior team at only 14 - a rare feat that marked him as a rising star.

But his proudest moment came in 2024, when he joined Nampower to compete in the elite Men’s Central Volleyball Association (CVA) League. “I finally got to show my skills on another level and experience the true pace and professionalism of the game,” he said.

To aspiring athletes, Matheu offers this golden advice: “Always do your best and never give up, because giving up is not an option.”

Matheu is proof that age is just a number when passion meets purpose.
