The University of Namibia (Unam) Accounting Society (Unas) celebrated a significant milestone on Friday evening - its 25th anniversary at a grand gala dinner under the theme “A Legacy of Excellence: 25 Years of Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders.” The event brought together students, alumni, sponsors and distinguished guests to reflect on the society's remarkable journey and its continued impact on the future of Namibia's accounting profession.

Incoming Unas President, Matti Jimmy Mulokoshi, delivered a speech, acknowledging the society’s humble beginnings and its growth into a leading platform for aspiring accountants. “Tonight, we gather not only to celebrate a milestone but to reflect on a remarkable journey - a journey that began 25 years ago with a vision to broaden the spectrum of accounting in Namibia,” Mulokoshi said. “The work of those who came before us has paved the way, setting a standard that inspires us daily. We are committed to nurturing and expanding that legacy.”

The evening's celebration also featured remarks from key figures that attended the event, including Unas Patron, Erwin Tjipuka, who expressed his pride in the society’s achievements. “I am so proud of Unas - both the outgoing and incoming leadership and the positive changes they have made,” said Tjipuka, who is also the CEO of Standard Bank. “We are proud to be associated with such a strong and dedicated group.”

Willy Mertens, CEO of Debmarine Namibia gave his remarks highlighting the transformative role that Unam and Unas have played in shaping Namibia’s leaders. "I myself started here many moons ago, in the accounting department, and I can personally attest to the impact of this community on my life personally as well as professionally," Mertens remarked.

The celebration also highlighted the role of Unas' sponsors, whose support, Mulokoshi emphasised, is essential to the society’s continued success. "You are not just sponsors; you are our partners, our champions," he said.

As Unas looks toward the next 25 years, its leadership is focused on expanding its influence and ensuring that future generations of students are equipped to excel in the ever-evolving financial landscape. The evening concluded with a sense of optimism, as Unas prepares to set new standards of excellence in the accounting world.
